Sustainability at the Conference Venue

The WONCA World Conference 2027 is committed to promoting sustainable development and environmentally responsible behaviour. 

This aligns with the strong sustainability ethic and practice of the Cape Town Internatonal Convention Centre (CTICC) venue:

• Using water that is bottled in glass on-site 
• Avoiding single-use catering products
• Sourcing local fresh produce where possible
• Reducing food-related waste and emissions
• Diverting food waste for local farm processing
• Offsetting conference emissions via local sustainability projects

What You Can Do

Travel Responsibly

• Measure your individual travel emissions using the calculator of Credible Carbon
• Opt for lower-emission transport, such as trains or buses
• Share rides with conference participants

Reduce Waste

• Avoid printing materials
• Use the Conference app to create your personal schedule
• Take only as much food as you will consume to help prevent waste

Use Resources Mindfully

• Turn off room lights, air conditioning, and electronic devices when not in use
• Take short showers and reuse bathroom towels

Support Local and Sustainable Choices

• Choose local businesses and restaurants that operate sustainably
• Support genuine carbon offset projects in disadvantaged communities via Credible Carbon (recycling waste, ecosystem restoration, solar energy etc.)

Share and Inspire Others

• Share your sustainability ideas and experiences with fellow participants
• Share your actions for environmental sustainability on social media
